Jason Andrews, Board Member, President and CEO

Jason Andrews co-founded Andrews Space, Inc., now Spaceflight Systems, in July 1999 to be a catalyst in the commercialization, exploration and development of space. Andrews Space was a best value integrator of aerospace systems and developer of advanced spacecraft products and components. In 2010 Mr. Andrews founded Spaceflight Services, Inc. to be a provider of routine, low-cost access to space for small and secondary payloads. Spaceflight Services currently offers small spacecraft and secondary payload flight opportunities to Low Earth, Geosynchronous and Low Lunar Orbit. Prior to co-founding Andrews Space and Spaceflight Services, Mr. Andrews worked at Kistler Aerospace Corporation (1995 to 1998) where he held a range of positions including K-1 Vehicle Two Project Manager and Design Integration Manager. Mr. Andrews holds a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington and was a "40 Under 40" honoree by the Puget Sound Business journal in 2006.

Marian Joh, Board Member, Spaceflight Systems President

Marian Joh co-founded Andrews Space, Inc., now Spaceflight Systems, in July 1999. Ms. Joh is currently the President of Spaceflight Systems, and over the years she served as CEO and CFO. Prior to Spaceflight Systems, Ms. Joh was Vice President of Scheinrock Advisory Group working with clients to determine strategy and develop business and strategic initiatives to improve their position in the marketplace. Ms. Joh’s visionary strategic planning capabilities have made her a key player in coordinating due diligence for various investor groups as well as in selecting investment bankers, insurance advisors and attorneys for a range of companies including Kistler Aerospace Corporation, Ball Semiconductor, and Lockheed Martin VentureStar. Before joining Scheinrock Advisory Group, Ms. Joh was the Senior Financial Analyst for Kistler Aerospace Corporation. At Kistler she used her combined skills to negotiate contracts in excess of $500 million, design and implement a comprehensive financial model, and develop a business plan which allowed the company to successfully raise approximately $300 million in private investment.

Curt Blake, Board Member, Spaceflight Services President

Curt Blake is currently the President of Spaceflight Services, and previously served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Mr. Blacke has led efforts to expand Spaceflight Services global network of launch service providers while building relationships with key commercial-, civilian- and defense-related customers. Mr. Blake has more than 25 years of executive experience in high-growth and tech industries, with past experience including a range of senior executive and general counsel roles at Microsoft, Starwave, Corbis and Aldus. In the last three years, Mr. Blake oversaw Spaceflight Services first four commercial rideshare launches, on the Antares, Soyuz and Dnepr vehicles, from sales to mission management to launch. Mr. Blake is a current member of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation Board and contributor to numerous small-satellite conferences.

Gabe Kompkoff, Investor and Board Member

Gabe Kompkoff, CEO of Chugach Alaska Corporation, is responsible for the performance of the Chugach group of companies and investments. In addition, he establishes the strategy for the allocation of financial and other corporate resources and is responsible for the pursuit and acquisition of businesses and investments. He also serves as the president of Chugach’s Commercial Division, and previously served as a director on the board of Chugach from October 2010 to December 2011.

Prior to joining Chugach, Mr. Kompkoff was a vice president at Bentall Kennedy, a 100-year-old investment advisor to U.S. and Canadian public, corporate and retirement systems, as well as major university endowments and sovereign wealth funds. At the time of his departure, Bentall Kennedy managed assets totaling $23 billion for over 400 clients.

Mr. Kompkoff has a wealth of transaction and management experience. During his tenure at Bentall, he worked in both the asset management group and the transactions group. He was involved in or led acquisitions and dispositions totaling over $450 million. In addition, he negotiated and secured long term contracts worth over $500 million. His diverse transaction experience includes heading numerous negotiations with a variety of businesses including manufacturing, distribution, wholesale and consumer retail, software development, architecture, engineering, construction and the full spectrum of professional and financial service companies. Prior to his departure, he was responsible for a portfolio of investments ranging in value from $700 million to $1 billion. The portfolio produced between $42 million and $60 million in annual net income. In addition, he managed several teams located throughout the Western United States including Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis and Portland.

Mr. Kompkoff holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Washington where he was honored with the Enterprise Fellowship. He was born in Cordova, Alaska and spent his youth commercial fishing with his parents in Prince William Sound. Mr. Kompkoff and his wife Laura have two young children.

Chuck Beames, Board Member, Executive Director at Vulcan Aerospace

Chuck Beames brings a unique combination of leadership and expertise in space and military systems, engineering, legislative affairs and business. Mr. Beames’ 30-year legacy in the Department of Defense includes the development and deployment of transformational airborne, ground- and space-based systems. In his current role at Vulcan, Mr. Beames is responsible for creating and executing the strategic plan to realize Paul Allen’s vision of revolutionizing space transportation. He provides overall technical leadership, project oversight and business development, all to ensure key milestones and program objectives are met. Prior to joining Vulcan, Mr. Beames was a member of the Senior Executive Service and last served as the Principal Director, Space and Intelligence to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, where he provided acquisition and technical oversight of a $90B space portfolio for the U.S. Department of Defense. In this role, his notable achievements include restructuring space launch acquisitions to ensure a more competitive and commercially viable industry and overseeing the acquisition restructuring of the Global Positioning System (GPS) constellation to ensure future operating ability

Will Porteus, Board Member, General Partner at RRE Ventures

Will Porteus serves as RRE Ventures’ Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Porteus focuses on early and expansion stage investments across RRE’s multiple technology verticals, with a concentration on enterprise systems, digital media and mobile. Before joining the venture capital industry, Mr. Porteus held senior management positions in marketing and product management with SupplyWorks and NetMarket, the e-commerce pioneer now owned by Cendant Corp.

Mr. Porteus is a Director at BuzzFeed, Connected Data, and Spire. He is a former Director of Whiptail Technologies (acquired by CSCO), Frictionless Commerce (acquired by SAP), Skyhook Wireless (Acquired by Liberty Media), Tacit Networks (acquired by PKTR), and Xobni (Acquired by Yahoo!). He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia Business School and as Chairman of the Dockery Farms Foundation which he founded.

Mr. Porteus holds an MBA from Harvard University, an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA with Honors from Stanford University where he served as Captain of the Varsity Crew.

Richard Fade, Board Member​ and Advisor

Richard Fade has more than 35 years of operational, business development and investment experience.

He is currently a Partner at Ignition Partners, a venture capital firm in Bellevue Washington investing in early stage technology, software and services companies. Mr. Fade's prior investments include more than a dozen virtualization, software as a service, cloud, and storage technology companies. Most recently Appature (IMS Health 2013), Azaleos (Avanade 2012), Likewise (Isilon/EMC 2012), StorSimple (Microsoft 2012) and Whiptail (Cisco 2013). He currently serves on the boards of Onehub, Talyst and Spaceflight Industries and is a Board advisor and angel investor in several early stage technology companies in the Northwest.

Prior to joining Ignition, Mr. Fade was 16 years at Microsoft Corporation in leadership roles including serving on Microsoft’s Executive Staff for 10 years as a division level vice president. His positions included; Senior Vice President of the OEM division responsible for Microsoft’s business with PC OEM and embedded software business, VP Desktop and Consumer Applications, overseeing the creation of Office 97 and other desktop applications, Vice President of the Internet Business Unit and Vice President Far East Region including product development for Japan, China and Korea. Mr. Fade led the teams that produced the first successful Asian language versions of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications. Mr. Fade has served on several non-profit boards and independent schools including presently Whitman College.

Peter Wegner, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Peter Wegner is the Chief Technology Officer at Spaceflight Industries. Prior to joining Spaceflight, Dr. Wegner was the Director of Advanced Concepts at Utah State University Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL). In this position he directed SDL’s Internal Research and Development investments in new technologies and systems to solve some of the Nation’s most critical emerging problems in National Security Space, Civil and Commercial Space, Tactical Air-borne C4ISR sensors and ground systems, and Advanced Electro-Optical Sensor Calibration and Testing. Dr. Wegner coordinated a research portfolio consisting of advanced basic research conducted by university faculty and students as well as applied R&D conducted by SDL staff and collaborating partners. In previous positions Dr. Wegner was the Director of the DoD’s Operationally Responsive Space Office at Kirtland AFB, NM where he directed a $120M/year budget and 60+ person staff chartered with the responsibility for developing a national strategy to develop new and innovative techniques to design, build, test, and operate space systems to support DoD missions. This included developing the ability to rapidly reconstitute and augment critical space capabilities in a time of crisis. Dr. Wegner has also held positions as the Technical Advisor to Air Force Space Command Directorate of Requirements and a Research Engineer with the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate where he developed many key innovations such as the EELV Secondary Payload Adapter (“ESPA Ring”) that has helped open the door for many small satellite programs to find a ride into space.

Tom Neary, Chief Financial Officer

Tom Neary is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Spaceflight Industries. Mr. Neary is a versatile executive with 30 years’ experience in publicly-traded and privately held technology and non-technology companies. He possesses deep and broad experience in strategic planning, mergers and acquisition, finance, SEC reporting, accounting , operations, tax, treasury, human resources, IT, partner marketing , and international business development. Immediately prior to joining Spaceflight Services, Mr. Neary was CFO for publically traded Pendrell Corporation ( NASDAQ: PCO ) providing companywide leadership for Finance, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, IT, Facilities, and HR functions. Pendrell is a fully integrated intellectual property investment and advisory services firm that previously, under the name of ICO Global, had extensive investments in satellite operations. Mr. Neary has also served as CFO & COO for Coast Crane Company, CFO for MarketRange Corporation, consulted extensively with Seattle-area startups, and spent 13 years at Microsoft Corporation. While at Microsoft Mr. Neary contributed in business development, marketing, operations, supply chain, and financial and accounting roles.

Indra Hornsby, General Counsel

Indra Hornsby is currently General Counsel at Spaceflight Industries. Ms. Hornsby has over 19 years of experience managing legal and business issues in the global commercial space sector. Prior to Spaceflight, Ms. Hornsby was Vice President, Legal at Saab Defense and Security in Washington, DC where she was part of a team focused on leveraging the company’s diversified aerospace technology portfolio in the Americas. Previously, Ms. Hornsby was Corporate Counsel for MDA Corporation where she contributed to multi-million dollar transactions including mergers and acquisitions, and worked strategic space initiatives in manned space, space robotics, commercial spaceflight, geospatial systems and on-orbit satellite servicing. During her career, she has contributed to the creation of national space legislation, on export control reforms, on developing government policies for aerospace technology advancement and in furthering space education and awareness. Ms. Hornsby is an active member with the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, currently sits on the Governing Committee for the ABA’s Air & Space Law Forum and has held positions on several boards over the years.
